Ninja been Stumbled-Upon!

Hey guys. It appears that I’ve been Stumbled-Upon (130 visitors in 1 hour)! The ancient book of Blog-jitsu says for these times:

Be really glad. Some cool guy has just Stumbled your blog. Remember not to cut his head off!

If you have a Stumble-Upon toolbar, please Vote it up. If not, remember that I have eyes and ears everywhere, I may come after you.

This prompts me to write a post.

Stickifying your blog for Social Media users!

There are many ways to stickify your blog for Social Media users. But why would you?

Social Media traffic is notorious for consisting of people who don’t care about anything else but reading the article and pressing ‘back’. The conversion rate (clicks on an ad for example) from them is POOR! You basically pay for them to come to you because the bandwidth used is huge. That’s why many people feel kinda raped after the “Digg effect”.

So, how will you stickify this blog of yours?

  1. Write longish (not too long okay) articles with plenty of paragraphs - There are two schools of thought here. First is that because of the low amount of focus, they won’t bother reading a huge post. The ninja school of thought is that if the post is long, but not too long, people will settle down and hear what you have to say. Hopefully they will enjoy it, and click on the “Recent posts” tab and do some serious reading. If they RSS you, you’re good.
  2. Have evidence of your other blog articles everywhere - I love the “Recent Posts”, “Most popular posts” and “Most commented on” widgets because people see them and are interested, therefore reading more of you. They come standard with Wordpress (I think).
  3. Write interesting titles - Nobody is gonna click on an article in the “Recent post” tab which says “Traffic is important for making money”. No Duh! You need to make a title which makes people wonder “What the hell is in that post?”.
  4. Make your blog look good - Please! There are countless times I’ve visited a blog which had okay content and a really crappy theme. As a result, I never returned. For the doubtful out there; just use Wordpress. There is no argument.
  5. Make your RSS feed apparent. That’s what I did over here :) . Use the plugin which attaches a little sentence saying something like “Blah Blah good post, subscribe to my feed“. You can download the plugin for that here. I could do even more to make my RSS feed apparent. I could put a big logo in the corner. Get creative.

So there. After getting Stumbled, I made an extremely informative post! Now go and blog about something similar, and remember a link back to me!

PS: Feel free to comment. The ninja is understanding of criticism.

Hello Steve, nice site you have here. I actually tried to register some type of blogging ninja domain a while back and I discovered ninjas are very popular with online people. Good luck.

I know, I discovered these people called the Internet Marketing ninja’s, the day before I launched my blog!

I should attack them from the shadows…

Great beginner tips!

It is also important to make good use of your blogs navigation. Have a sidebar that is about the average length of your home page but don’t fill it with extensive advertising or visually stimulating content. Have your most important content at the top, preferably above the fold.

Also, link to blogs that share your topic. Many bloggers track the sites that mention or link to them and those blog owners may become regular readers if they enjoy your content. You can bounce ideas off each other and gain a lot of insight from reading their blogs too. Sharing these links with your readers makes you a valuable resource. Of course, if your blog isn’t brilliant then they might decide to read other blogs on your theme and scrap yours so it is important to maintain a high quality.
