Ninja Tip 4 - 12 Things New Blogs Should Know (Part 1)

This is a list I have decided that newb bloggers should definitely read. Its the type of thing which I wish I had handy when I started my first blog, as it can help you identify what is going wrong.

I’ll start here:

  1. Don’t use Blogspot. Please - If you want to be taken seriously from the get-go, then get yourself a domain and set-up Wordpress. Blogspot can damage your credibility.
  2. Write for your readers - Don’t write entirely for readers, or else you’ll sound like a robot. Very much like this guy, Allan Liew (Probably spelt his name wrong, I don’t care!).
  3. Don’t trick your readers - Please don’t place tricky affiliate links in your posts. People definitely won’t trust. If you must, tell them its an affiliate link.
  4. Give them the full feed - Never ever ever ever ever give your readers 25% of your RSS feed or something. That’ll just piss them off.
  5. Don’t just talk about yourself - For example, people like John Chow, always talk about themselves. I know its supposed to be a “personal” blog, but many people (such as myself) get extremely annoyed. Don’t be a conceited asshole basically.
  6. Talk about yourself - You may think that I am sick and I’ve just contradicted my last post; but that’s not true. Sometimes you have to talk about yourself and your experiences. Try it and your readers can relate to you a lot better.

That concludes the first part of the series, The next one should be coming right at you tomorrow! Stick around, and if you are worried you may miss it, subscribe to my RSS feed.

PS: I’ve bashed 2 bloggers in this post, I feel pretty good! I’ll make sure to bash another one tomorrow.

Those are great tips. I did try to find the balance between #5 and #6. I started my blog for personal purpose. However, My parents and families were not interested in reading my day to day life. It will just make them worry about my self-motivated journey.

So I start writing about what I have done and the thoughts. I did post some very useful IT related topics.

Good to see you making some progress on this new blog. :-) Thank you for the tips.
