Dark Ninja Move 2 - Getting back at RSS scrapers

I have recently noticed that there is someone scraping my content via an RSS feed. I’m not going to give you a link to this site because it will just help him in rankings.

This blog of mine, stevesmit.com, is the personal blog of Steve Smit.

RSS scrapers are blogs that take the information from your RSS feed and republish it on their blog. They may also give you credit. Above you can see that I put three links to my site. Why? Because I am being targeted by an RSS scraper. He may be giving me credit and not publishing the entire post, but I am still going to take advantage of it.

So, how will this work?

Well, if he decides to scrape my content, then I’ll be prepared. There’ll be three links back to my site, not including the credit link he gives me ;).

Do you all understand? Good. Then you’ll know that when you see links in your Wordpress Dashboard linking to some obscure site with the same anchor text as you, you’re being scraped.

I decided to do a little experiment. I wanted to see if this asshole was beating me in the SERP’s. So, I did a search for the title of one of my scraped posts. Here is the results page. As you can see, he is nowhere and I’m at the top. Good.

I will keep you updated on the happenings of this mysterious scraper.
