Ninja Power - Flame Wars for Dummies
Hey guys. Welcome to the first Ninja Power post. This one, is about attacking your rival websites. How do you do it? Well read to find out.
Let’s start with the basics.
Why would you attack a rival blog
Rival blogs are everywhere. They steal your visitors and comments. In some cases this means a loss of money. So, this is obviously rather frustrating because they aren’t really better than you are they? No.
This is where an attack comes in. You are going to need to start some sort of flame war in order to get more visitors and subscribers. In some cases, you’ll steal his subscribers away from him.
How?
You need to write some sort of post on why this person just PISSES you off. For example, I might say that John Chow pisses me off because he’s a greedy bastard. He also writes absolute CRAP on his site about where he ate last night. On the other hand, I think that Darren Rowse is a model blogger because he writes interesting things and its always related to his topic, blogging tips.
There, I said that I don’t like John Chow. Now, if I were truly going to try and start a flame war, I would send a trackback to his latest post. Then he could see it and he would acknowledge it if he wanted to. Then all the regular perks of a a flame war come with it (links, traffic, exposure). Just to those opportunists, I wouldn’t recommend actually trying to start a flame war with John Chow. It won’t work.
Now, some tips for those people who don’t have a clue whatsoever about flame wars.
- Don’t attack those MUCH bigger than you. For example, don’t try and start a war with Darren Rowse if you have 5 RSS subscribers. First of all, no one will notice, second, no one will care. You have zero credit. Wait until you have gotten better credit by other means.
- Don’t attack if you aren’t even in their niche. Don’t tell someone in the Art niche, that they’re an idiot, unless you yourself blog in the Art niche.
- Know what you are talking about. Usually, someone’s post goes further down the rabbit-hole than you think. Research things before you attack anyone.
- Attack those the same size as you. As a rule of thumb, attack those the same size as you. This can be judged by RSS subscribers.
There. Now take these tips and go and start a flame war. You can even start a war with me. I’m a Ninja, I’m used to attacks!
